Miramichi River Basin: In Newcastle, many basements were inundated and had to be pumped out. On Castle Street, the flood waters extinguished many furnace fires, resulting in the closure of several stores. In Nelson-Miramichi, agricultural lands were reported to be flooded. The river was reported to be filled with wood from broken booms and lumber which was swept from wharves. In the aftermath, debris was scattered on both shores. The inflow from the tide was reported to have started at about 6:30 p.m., and continued until about 9:00 p.m. Reports stated that the first snowfall of the season also occurred on November 20.
High tides and rain for the past week.
The tides were reported to be the highest in 25 years. About four inches [10 cm] of snow fell, and the winds were reported to be from the east.
No estimates of damage were presented. The greatest losses were reported to be to the mills in the area.
