Affected Areas


The violent wind and rainstorm resulted in widespread power interruptions, cancelled ferry operations in the Maritime Provinces, disrupted some telephone services and resulted in minor flooding of some highways. Flood warnings were issued for several rivers in the central and southern portions of the Province. Nashwaak River Basin: The Nashwaak River overflowed its banks near Nashwaak Village, inundating a section of Route 8 and interval land. At Marysville, the Killarney Road and River Road were inundated for a period and closed to traffic. Fredericton Area: In Fredericton, the C.N.R. underpass was flooded and a section of Harron Road (Brookside Drive) was closed when a bridge was washed out. No other incidents of flooding were reported.
The New Brunswick Flood Forecast Centre reported that the Saint John River at Fredericton peaked at five metres. Flooding in the Fredericton area normally begins at 5.1 metres, with six metres (20 feet) considered critica flood stagel. A total rainfall of 64.9 millimetres of rain was reported at Fredericton.
No estimates of the flood damage were presented. However, the majority of the damage would have been wind related.
