A severe rainstorm resulted in excessive amounts of precipitation in the Upper Saint John River Basin, generally ranging from 75 mm to 262 mm. Thundershowers were reported to be frequent in the southern portion of the Province. No reports of widespread inundation have been collected, but localized flooding is suspected.
Excessive rainfall amounts were recorded at St. Eleuthere (67 mm), St. Pamphile (109 mm), Edmundston (114 mm) and St. Perpetue (262 mm), most of which fell on August 6. Fredericton and Quebec City reported 24 hour rainfall amounts of 32 mm and 50 mm respectively for August 5. Water levels on the Saint John River rose 4.5 metres in less than 24 hours at a point 20 kilometres upstream of Edmundston. A rise of 2.5 metres in less than 12 hours was recorded at Fredericton.
