Rain began on January 25 and carried on throughout January 31. At least three New Brunswick centres had broken or tied previous rainfall records for the month of January. Saint John Area: In Saint John, some streets bordering the harbour, such as Market Slip, were inundated because of the high water levels and tides. A photograph ** was published showing the inundation of Market Slip. Moncton Area: In Moncton, the steady rains had caused the overflow of catch basins and ditches and inundated basements. A portion of Spruce Street was washed out. In Riverview, several streets were washed out and closed to traffic. Some basement flooding was also reported.
Fredericton Area: At Fredericton, the total precipitation measured over 142.2 millimetres, breaking the 141 mm mark established for the month of January in 1892.
