Affected Areas

Newcastle Area: Highwater was reported on both the Newcastle and Chatham waterfronts. In Newcastle, water inundated the dump road and the causeway which connects Ritchie Wharf with the Waterfront Parking Lot. In Nelson-Miramichi, reports of erosion were recorded. In Loggieville, one-half of the causeway leading to Middle Island Provincial Park was washed away, and about 1 200 feet [approx. 365 m] of railway line at the Old Ferry Landing was flooded, halting freight traffic.
The tide heights were reported to have reached levels of about six feet [1.8 m] above predicted levels.
The Department of Public Works described the storm as having "accelerated the rate of erosion" in the Nelson-Miramichi area.
