Heavy rain

Affected Areas

Saint John Area: For the second time in a week, heavy rains caused flooding in the Saint John area. A number of homes, both in Saint John East and in the Rodney Street district of Saint John West, experienced flooding problems. Rothesay Avenue was inundated between Russell Street and McAllister Drive, and Fairville Boulevard was closed from Manawagonish Road to Kierstead Drive. The hollow between Manawagonish Road intersection and Kierstead Drive was said to be flooded to a depth of three feet.
The Saint John Weather Office reported the precipitation to be 1.46 inches [37.1mm]. The reason for the widespread flooding in comparison to February 20 is not known. However, it may have been due partially to the effect of the tidal cycle on Marsh Creek.
