Saint John River Basin: Torrential rains were blamed for death, injury and heavy property damage. Erosion of fields was reported to be heavy. At Grand Falls, a home was destroyed when the foundation was undermined, and a 50 foot section of highway was torn up to a depth of 30 feet. A car plunged over an 80 foot embankment during the storm, killing one and injuring two. Another home, house trailer and a garage were damaged. Numerous roads in low lying areas were inundated and a small bridge was washed out at Comeau Ridge near St. André. Some damage occurred between St. Leonard and Hartland. In the St. Leonard area, several homes reported basement flooding. A C.P.R. washout was reported to have occurred near Grand Falls.
Six inches of rain fell in the Grand Falls area in a six hour period. Water levels in the brooks and the Saint John River rose to spring levels and many overflowed their banks in low lying areas.
No estimates of the flood damage were reported in the accounts. Two lives were lost in the Grand Falls area when a car plunged over an embankment as a result of the storm.
