Heavy rain

Affected Areas

A heavy rainstorm on July 12th left many residents in Riverview with flooded basements. The record-breaking storm hit the Moncton area on the 12th, with Riverview sustaining the most damage. Residents awoke to flooded streets and basements, and in many cases, ruined furniture and finishes. Streets affected included Whitepine, Baldwin, Kimberly and Warren. Some residents of Kimberly reported nearly 0.6 meters of water in their basements. Many residents blamed the city’s inadequate sewer system for the flooding, which had occurred several times before. There were also some reports of flooding on McAllister Drive and on a few streets in Point Park. A spokesperson for the Moncton Weather Office said the 24-hour rainfall from 9a.m. on the 12th to 9a.m. on the 13th was the highest July total on record.
