Saint John Area: At Saint John, the heavy rains resulted in catchbasins blocked with gravel and debris. Some streets were reported to be "turned into river beds". The Marsh Road and streets at Lower Cove were reported to be torn up by the heavy runoff, and many basements were inundated. Erosion was reported to be quite extensive at the Public Gardens and in the local agricultural areas. Several minor washouts were reported along the C.P.R. lines in the Saint John area.
Exceptionally heavy rain.
Saint John Area: At Saint John, in excess of four inches [100 mm] of rain was reported to have fallen between 10:00 p.m. on June 23 and the morning of the 24th. Sussex Area: At Sussex, a 4.33 inch rainfall [approximately 110 mm] was recorded between 10:00 p.m. on June 23 and 9:00 a.m. on June 24. The rain was reported to have continued until 2:00 p.m. on June 24. The total rainfall for the storm was reported to be 4.87 inches [124 mm] in the 16 hour period.
No estimates of damage were presented. The newspapers did indicate however, that crop damage was extensive.
