Affected Areas

Sources: The Chatham Gazette 1934/04/16. Chatham Area: There was reported to be very little frost in the ground, which probably increased infiltration. Reports indicated that heavy rains on the night of April 13, combined with snowmelt on April 14, saturated the ground to an unusual extent, and basement flooding occurred in buildings where it was rarely, if ever, a problem. On April 14, water was observed flowing out of a sewer cover on Wellington Street for the greater part of the day.
Rain and snowmelt. High infiltration of the stormwater into the storm and sanitary sewers, probably caused a back up and flooded the basements.
No information on the flood magnitude was presented.
No estimates of the flood damage were reported.
