A Secchi disc is an instrument used to denote water clarity and the general ‘health’ of the lake as clear water lets light penetrate more deeply into the lake than murky water. The Secchi disc is a black and white patterned disc attached to a rope, which is marked at one-meter intervals. The disc is lowered into the lake until it’s at a depth where it can no longer be seen.
