Heavy rain

Affected Areas

Moncton Area: A heavy rain caused localized flooding. Over 300 residents were affected. Newspaper reports indicated the flooding was primarily a result of sewer backup, which resulted in flooded basements. The north end of Moncton was particularly affected in the areas around the Pinehurst subdivision, McSweeney Avenue, Autumn Terrace and Edgett Avenue. However, there were reports of flooding from throughout the city. Some basements were flooded by up to 0.5 metres of dirty water. During the storm, a large pool of water accumulated at the intersection of McSweeney Avenue and Autumn Terrace. At one point, the pool of water reached as high as the roof of a car parked on McSweeney Avenue. The manager of a cleaning company stated that "it was the worst case of flooding he had seen in the 15 years he had worked for the firm".
The Moncton airport reported that 24.4 millimetres of rain fell, and the wind gusts were measured to be as high as 110 kilometres per hour. Hailstones were reported to be six millimetres in diameter.
No information on the flood damages was presented. However, it was expected to be considerable.
