Saint John Area: Many low lying areas were flooded after 80 mm of rain fell on January 24 and the 25th. Flooding occurred in sections of Glen Falls, on Simpson Drive, McAllister Drive, and Rothesay Avenue. The flooding was aggravated by ice blockages around culverts and catch basins. Many basements flooded. The fire department responded to between 50 and 60 calls for help with basement flooding. A rental company and a plumbing and heating firm also received over 50 calls each for similar assistance.
The water level reached 2.95 metres on the Marsh Creek gauge. The normal height was reported to be one to one and a half metres.
No estimates of the flood damage were reported.
