Affected Areas

There is some confusion in the newspaper reports regarding the year. It may have been 1832. Fredericton Area: A short period of flooding that lasted about two hours was caused by an ice jam just downstream of Fredericton. The water level in Fredericton rose above the level reached in 1887. Both the upper and lower parts of Fredericton were under water. Water lay two to four feet deep [0.6 to 1.2m] on Queen Street. Flooding extended as far as Wilmot's Alley and flowed upwards as far as Regent Street. The back up of water flooded the Keswick Islands and floated some houses away.
