Restigouche River Basin: A nine year old youth drowned in the swift flowing waters of Walker Brook after falling in while playing near the brook with a companion. The parking lot area of Sugarloaf Lodge was also partly inundated.
One life was lost during the flood. It was reported that "the brook swells during thaw months, and that five children have drowned in the brook over the past 50 years". The other fatalities occurred during the months of April and May in 1944, 1951, 1954 and 1956 (2).
