Northeastern N.B.: In Gloucester County, Shippegan Island was severed from the mainland when the causeway bridge became inundated by the high tides. A one mile [1.6km] section of highway between the communities of Shippagan and Inkerman was also submerged by the tides. Newcastle Area: At Newcastle, the Miramichi River was reported to have risen about six feet [1.8m] above normal to threaten a number of buildings and overtop the wharves. Southeastern New Brunswick: Six families in the Richibucto area were forced from their homes as heavy rains swelled the Richibucto River to eight feet [2.4m] above normal. The public wharf and many village streets were flooded. Water Street in Rexton was inundated, with floodwaters extending up to St. Andrews United Church and the adjoining cemetery. The road from Rexton to Richibucto Village was impassable after a small bridge was washed out.
Hurricane Gladys swept the Maritime Provinces accompanied by heavy rains and high tides.
Newcastle Area: At Chatham, a rainfall of 1.98 inches [50mm] was recorded on October 21. Southeastern New Brunswick: At Moncton, a rainfall of 4.17 inches [105.30mm] had fallen in a 24 hour period.
Newcastle Area: In Newcastle, the merchants were prepared by moving stock to safety. Southeastern New Brunswick: Six families in the Richibucto area were evacuated, and a small bridge was washed out on the road from Rexton to Richibucto Village.
