Affected Areas

An early March rainstorm left pooling water on some city streets in the Fredericton and Moncton areas. A spokesperson for the City of Fredericton said Hanwell Road, Springhill Road, the Forest Hill Road overpass, Saunders Street at Rookwood Avenue, Brookside Drive and McLeod Hill Road were among the city streets where water was over the road, making travel difficult. Water was up to the top of vehicle tires as drivers tried to navigate the northside Princess Margaret Bridge underpass. The city had front end loaders where snowbanks were allowing water buildup. At Ring Road and Brookside Drive, heavy machinery was used to dig a trench to let water drain away from the turning lane toward the Brookside Mall, which had pools of standing water. The City of Moncton reported nine streets flooded.
Environment Canada rainfall amounts for March 6th and 7th: Fredericton: 58.5 mm Moncton: 22.2 mm
Gallery Connexion in Fredericton suffered some flooding on the 7th. Staff discovered five centimeters of water on the floor of the gallery. The gallery was forced to move from its previous location in the basement of the Justice Building in downtown Fredericton because of flooding in 2008. The rainfall forced a boil order advisory for residents of Riverside-Albert. The boil advisory was issued by the Department of Health. Heavy rains that result in significant run-off impact the reservoirs that provide the community’s drinking water.
