Affected Areas


Remnants from Tropical Storm Bill resulted in heavy rainfall throughout southern New Brunswick on June 21st. Hardest hit was the Sackville area with 145 millimeters; generally, the region only receives an average of 95 millimeters of rain in June. The heavy rains caused flooding and resulted in 650 residents in Sackville being stranded due to road closures. The town executed its flood contingency plans, which included deploying fire engines and heavy machinery on either side of submerged roads, and warning residents of the emergency. A washout along Route 106 resulted in the closure of the Shorebird Reserve and Interpretive Centre in Johnson’s Mills. In nearby Amherst, Nova Scotia, flooding resulted in the evacuation of 84 residents from a seniors’ complex.

Flooding resulted in the temporary closure of Route 935 from British Settlement Road to Route 106, Route 106 from Cherry Burton Road to Route 935, and a five-kilometer stretch of Route 106 in Frosty Hollow. Lorne Street, between Allison Avenue and Dufferin Street, was also closed.
