Affected Areas

Heavy rain accompanied by wind gusts of up to 82 kilometers per hour led to flash flooding, fallen trees and downed power lines on some Fredericton streets after an intense storm hit the capital city on May 28th. The Fredericton Fire Department responded to between 40 and 50 calls in a span of a few hours, regarding reports of arcing power lines, downed lines, fallen trees and flooded streets. Parts of the downtown core and the Devon area had almost a meter of water on streets for about five minutes as the storm drainage system was unable to handle the deluge. At the peak of the storm, over 24,000 people were without power in Fredericton, Woodstock, Nackawic, Lake George, McAdam and Kingsclear. Fredericton was the hardest hit with nearly 16,000 customers without power. By the next day, service had been restored to all but approximately 900 customers.
