Affected Areas

Melting snow combined with more than 60 millimeters of rain caused flash flooding in Moncton and surrounding areas early in May 1972. In Moncton, there was flooding in private homes as drains became blocked with debris. In Riverview, several residential areas were flooded, including the Hebron Street area. There was construction on Trites Road so workers could install an additional culvert to avoid future problems in the area.
Environment Canada rainfall totals for May 3rd to 6th: Moncton: 63.3 mm
The Salisbury Road was closed to traffic at a point about 13 kilometers west of Moncton when a culvert was washed out on the 4th. Three washouts occurred on the Pine Glen Road, south of Riverview, when Mill Creek overflowed its banks. One of the washouts was reported to be 1.5 meters deep. Highway crews filled in the washouts with gravel and the road was reopened on the 8th. In Albert County, Route 195 was washed out between Dennis Beach and Alma.
