Memramcook River Basin: High tides caused widespread flooding of the marshes and damaged dykes. The marshes between Dorchester and Memramcook were badly flooded. Tantramar River Basin: Widespread flooding occurred on the Tantramar Marshes. The road between Sackville and Aulac was submerged to a depth of 1.2 metres (4 feet) in places. Rail traffic was delayed for several days due to a washout near Aulac Station. Roads near the Public Landing were covered with 0.3 metres (1 foot) or more of water.
An exceptionally high tide, in combination with a strong southerly wind.
The tides were reported to be some 6 feet [1.8m] below the highest point of the Saxby Gale in 1869.
Memramcook River Basin: At Upper Dorchester, a span of the Rockland Bridge was carried away. Tantramar River Basin: A large portion of the dykes, on Coles Island, was reported to be carried away. A washout on the I.C.R. railway line near Aulac Station required almost two days to repair. A considerable quantity of late hay was completely submerged, and many haystacks were damaged. Some barns floated off their foundations.
