Affected Areas

General: The rain and wind from this storm resulted in widespread damage in Nova Scotia. Saint John Area: A heavy rainfall from March 12 to the 14th, accompanied by strong west to northwest winds, resulted in flooding in various parts of the City of Saint John and outlying districts. Cellars and basements were flooded, streets were washed out and the traffic was suspended on Westmorland and Marsh roads. Sackville Area: Runoff from heavy rains and melting snow resulted in localized flooding. Lorne Street was inundated near the B.C. Raworth, and Eastern Hay & Feed Company properties. The basements of some homes were also flooded. High water levels were reported on the marsh along the C.N.R. branch line to Middle Sackville.
Torrential rains and wind may have caused snowmelt, resulting in a flood.
Sackville Area: It was reported that "the rain began on the evening of March 12 and continued, with a few slight interruptions, for more than 24 hours. At times the water came down in sheets". The road near the Baptist Church at Middle Sackville was flooded to a depth of about two feet (0.6 m). Reports suggested that the freshet that inundated the marsh along the C.N.R. branch line to Middle Sackville was the greatest since the dam was torn out during a previous flood at Morice Pond.
Saint John Area: The damage throughout the area was reported to be heavy. Sackville Area: Some damage was reported to have occurred at the Eastern Hay & Feed Company property.
