Newcastle Area: An exceptionally high tide was reported to have resulted in basement flooding in buildings on the south side of Castle Street. The high tide occurred during a severe snowstorm with strong northeast winds.
An exceptionally high tide, possibly a storm surge.
It was reported that the floodwaters reached a depth of about three feet (0.9 m) in Sargeant's Stable.
Considerable damage was reported to have occurred to the fishermen's nets and rigging, particularly in the down river areas.
