The surface water monitoring network stations are sampled a minimum of 4 times per year and the data reflects the water quality at that point in time. The Surface Water Monitoring Network is only one of the monitoring programs of the Department of the Environment and Local Government (DELG), for more information on other monitoring programs please contact DELG.

Although many of these chemical elements and physical properties of water are naturally occurring, non-point source runoff, point source discharges, atmospheric deposition, and other human-influenced activities can have an effect on the overall concentrations in surface water.
